Gwynne Dyer's lurch to the left

Gwynne Dyer who I previously thought to be mildly 'Leftish' has penned a barmy lightweight, factually incorrect item which in New Zealand, has been uncritically published in the 'Otago (Dunedin) Daily Times.

Thew title is: 'Palestinian state not a panacea for Gaza's woes', is misguided and wrong on several fronts. Surely achieving a two-state solution would mean the Palestinians fronting the negotiations as a unified political entity. In 2005 Hamas avoided an election by the simple stratagem of assassinating its PLO opponents. Meanwhile, in Ramallah PLO President Abbas, is into the twentieth year of his four-year term.

During those twenty years, Israel has had five PMs and Gwynne'e much-reviled Netanyahu, has won general elections three times. As for Israel's destruction of Gaza's agriculture, the exact opposite is the case. When Israel unilaterally quit Gaza in 2005, it left intact prosperous horticulture assets with established markets in Israel proper and further afield. With destruction uppermost in mind, as always, Gazans took to smashing-up the greenhouses, and thus at one blow, removing both sustenance and cash income.
