A 'Cyrus Accord'?
The delight shown by the Iranian diaspora, at the demise of the dictator Khamenei contained one nugget that I found particularly encouraging. One commenter stated that the new regime could initiate a 'Cyrus Accord' with Israel. For those unfamiliar with Cyrus he was King of Persia from about 559 to 530 BCE. Cyrus was generally unhappy about the subjugation of conquered peoples and set his Jewish captives free to leave Babylon and return to their homeland in what is now Israel.
One of the main reasons for Cyrus' benevolence seems to have been his Zoroastrian faith.
His linguistic heritage is also worth noting - he spoke an older version of modern Farsi which locates him in present-day Iran. The Jews of course spoke Hebrew, again a language rooted in the local landscape.
Anxious to replant themselves in their homeland, the returned Jews began construction in Jerusalem of the Second Temple.
Given that the release was some 1200 years before the Prophet Muhammad was born, it makes nonsense of the assertions of some, that the Jews are cruel, genocidal, conquering invaders and overlords to the poor Palestinians.
Oh yes. Let's not forget that Palestinians speak Arabic, brought with them from distant Arabia.
